Don't take yourself too seriously.

Writing quickly off the top of your head (stream-of-consciousness style) is a pressure release for the high strung perfectionist living inside of us. Start by writing one word and just keep writing one after another without stopping to think. We’re looking to use that little inner voice that gets buried under layer after layer of expectations, perfectionism, and generally taking yourself too seriously.

Don’t stop to edit yourself.

Don’t fix your spelling or grammar - don’t even think about it.

Let whatever happens happen and don’t give it a second thought.

While it’s only in here once, I’ll often use this exercise to get the ball rolling when I’m feeling bogged down. There is no goal here but to write with reckless abandon. It’s like taking a deep breath and blowing a raspberry. It just feels silly and kinda good sometimes.
